Welcome to Doug's Universe. Astronomy is one of my favorite passtimes. There is nothing quite like standing outside in the clear night air and gazing up at the stars. This site was created to share my enthusiam for the night sky and all the wonders of the universe.
Part of being an amateur astronomer, is sharing our telescopes and our passion for astronomy with others. I am a proud member of the Naperville Astronomical Association (NAA) . The NAA promotes astronomy through many public outreach programs, by operating the Glen D. Riley Observatory in Naperville, Illinois, and through JPL's Night Sky Network. Public meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, in the Naperville Municipal Center at 7:30pm. The public is always welcome.
I also host a weekly astronomy-oriented radio show on WONC FM 89.1 every Wednesday at 12:30pm Central time. WONC is operated by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. Each week, I tell people about upcoming astronomical events, eclipses, planets, etc. It's very informal and I try to keep it simple. I'll post show-related sky charts here, for any listeners that would like to locate the objects discussed on the show.
