A little bit about myself.....

I was born and raised in Portage, Indiana. Being a small child during the Apollo moon landings, it was hard not to become interested in space travel and astronomy. At about the age of 12, my parents got me my first telescope for Christmas. It was a 3 inch newtonian reflector. I used it to look at the moon and anything else I could find through it. Although there's really not much you can see in a telescope of that size. One night I saw a bright "star" in the sky and pointed the telescope at it, only to realize that the bright star wasn't a star at all, It was Saturn! I could just barely tell that it had rings. From that moment on I was hooked on astronomy.

Over the years I drifted away from astronomy, but always remained interested in it. Then in April of 2000, I decided to buy a my first serious telescope, an 8 inch Meade LX200. After searching around the web and seeing the many beautiful images displayed on the websites of other amateur astronomers, I decided that I'd like to try my hand at photographing the night sky. I've been upgrading equipment ever since, taking images, and I even built my own 18 inch telescope. Astronomy has been my single favorite hobby that I've ever tried, and the one hobby that I've stuck with for more than a couple years.

Astrophotography is not easy, and is quite demanding of your time and equipment. You soon realize that to take great images requires skill, patience, and a deep pocketbook. This website shows my progress from my earliest attempts and failures, to my latest attempts and triumphs. I hope you enjoy my website and my images.

Sincerely,

Doug David
